Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (22-28.09.2008)

The fourth week of September is a period of relative stability of prices especially on the vegetables market. Of course apples still remain the main topic.

Prices of industrial apples in purchasing centres were at the level of 0.047 - 0.056 EUR/kg, but last week one could observe the reduced supply of apples for processing. Prices in processing plants were 0.059 - 0.074 EUR/kg.

The prices of dessert apples slightly dropped. Price of Lobo and Cortland varieties was 0.19 EUR/kg. Prices of different varieties were higher: Gala - average price was 0.33 EUR/kg, Jonagold, Ligol and Rubin - 0.36 EUR/kg.

The prices of plums much increased. In the end of last week the price of plums without the packaging was 0.30 – 0.45 EUR/kg, and price of cooled plums with the packaging was to 0.65 EUR/kg. Price of plums for processing was also high. In some regions of Poland price of plums of good quality was 0.45 EUR/kg.

On the market of vegetables there is a small stability of prices. Till Thursday there were adverse weather conditions what resulted in high prices of some vegetables. Prices of beetroots, carrots, cabbages, broccoli, cauliflowers remained stable but in some regions of Poland there was a lack of wholesale amounts of cauliflowers. Prices of sweet peppers stayed at the high level. In the end of last week the wholesale price of red sweet peppers, packed in cardboard boxes was 1.00 – 1.07 EUR/kg. On the wholesale markets the price of red sweet peppers in plastic bags exceeded the level of 1.19 EUR/kg. The price of onion also remains stable, although the information about the worsening of its quality appeared as a result of the bad weather.

The average prices of tomatoes also remained stable. In the end of last week the average price of tomatoes of B size was 0.73 EUR/kg and price of tomatoes of BB size was 0.76 EUR/kg. Prices of greenhouse cucumbers much increased, especially in the central region of Poland. The average price of long cucumbers was 1.04 EUR/kg and price of short cucumbers was 1.26 EUR/kg.
