Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (28.07-3.08.2008)

The next problems with purchase of cherries appeared last week. Price of cherries for juice was about 0.14 EUR/kg and cherries for deep-freezing about 0.19 – 0.25 EUR/kg.

Moreover processing plants started limiting the quantity of purchased cherries. They explain that they have lack of capacity to process more cherries.

Decreasing prices of other fruit are also troubled for fruit growers. In the end of July price of apples for processing decreased to 0.04 – 0.05 EUR/kg. Price of the cheapest varieties of plums decreased to 0.23 EUR/kg and price of more needed varieties of plums is slightly above 0.31 EUR/kg. The purchase of apricots started last week with price 0.67 EUR/kg and price began going down at once.
One can observe significant downward trend in fruit prices and it will probably not change.
In the end of July processing plants practically finished the purchase of black currants. In the end of purchase prices did not change and were 0.59 – 0.62 EUR/kg for black currants and about 0.37 – 0.40 EUR/kg for red and white currants.

Last week of July one could also observe downward trends in prices of most vegetables. As it was expected price of cauliflowers started decreasing and at the beginning of last week their price was still at high level of 0.63 EUR/piece while in the end of week average price was 0.48 EUR/piece. Price decrease one could also observe for the following vegetables: beetroots from 0.20 to 0.18 EUR/kg, red sweet peppers from 1.01 to 0.96 EUR/kg, potatoes – again decrease by 0.02 to 0.19 EUR/kg, tomatoes – decrease to 0.43 EUR/kg for tomatoes of size B.

Last week low prices of carrots (0.22 – 0.23 EUR/kg) and white cabbages (0.06) were kept.
On the other hand one could observe upward trend in prices of field cucumbers, Iceberg lettuces and curled-leaved lettuces. In the end of July price of filed cucumbers was 0.53 EUR/kg, price of Iceberg lettuces was about 0.62 EUR/piece and price of curled –leaved lettuces was 0.47 EUR/piece. Price increase is caused by lower supply of cucumbers and lettuces as a result of unfavourable weather conditions. Such situation will last probably a few days.
