Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (3.-9.11.2008)

On the market of fresh fruit and vegetables prices still remain stable. The first week of November didn't see great changes.
The average prices of industrial apples were staying at level 0.027 euro/kg in the purchasing centres and 0.038-0.046 euro/kg for apples delivered to processing plants. The highest price concerns processing plants in the south of Poland, but the majority of the raw material is still delivered to these plants from the central Poland (the area of Grójec).
Prices of eating apples didn't change in spite of finishing harvests. Prices of apples packed into cardboard boxes were staying at the level from 0.192 to 0.274 euro/kg depending on the variety. Only more and more popular Golden variety is more expensive: 0.32 – 0.38 euro/kg.
It was the consecutive week when prices of cauliflowers and broccoli were staying at low level. The average price of cauliflowers packed into cardboard boxes was 0.38 euro/piece and the average price of broccoli was 0.42 euro/piece. However because of lower and lower twenty-four hour temperatures one can expect the fall in the supply of these vegetables and the rise in their prices.
Prices of brassicas, root vegetables and onion remain stable. Possible fluctuations of prices of these vegetables are minimal and they result from local fluctuations of supply and demand.
Last week the price of greenhouse cucumbers increased. The average price of short cucumbers was 1.64 euro/kg and price of long cucumbers was 1.23 euro/kg. At the moment production of cucumbers require the bigger expenditure on the heating. However increasing import can meet considerable demand for cucumbers and stop a possible rise in prices.
A season of Polish greenhouse tomatoes is already ending. On Tuesday last week the price of tomatoes A and B sizes slightly decreased and then stayed at the stable level. The average price of tomatoes of A size was 0.64 euro/kg and B size - 0.74 euro/kg.
