Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (04-10.05.2009)
Last week prices of the majority of vegetables was much fluctuated and prices of apples intended for export were still increasing. It was growth by about 10 % week-on-week. The demand for apples is still very big, both on the East market as well as on the domestic market.
Price Idared for export was up to 2 PLN (0.46 euro)/kg (with carton). The average price of other red varieties was 1.70 PLN (0.39 euro)/kg (with carton). The prices of Golden Delicious and Mutsu were as usual higher: 2.30 PLN (0.53 euro)/kg and 2.50 PLN (0.57 euro)/kg respectively.
Last week the prices of imported fruit was the most stable. However one could noticed next decrease in prices of bananas. Their price decreased by the next 5 PLN(1.15 euro) for carton week-on-week.
On the market of fresh vegetables it was the consecutive week, when the supply of early vegetables was increasing and as a result their prices were going down. At the end of last week the price of lettuce was 8 – 12 PLN (1.84-2.76 euro)/16 pcs. and the average price of curled leaved lettuces was 1.65 PLN (0.35 euro)/pcs (decrease from 2.10 PLN (0.48 euro)/pcs). The price of early cabbage was about 2.40 PLN (0.55 euro)/pcs (decrease from 3 PLN (0.69 euro)/pcs) and prices of kohlrabi was at level 1 – 1.50 PLN (0.23-0.34 euro)/pcs. Generally prices of greenhouse cucumbers also dropped, however at the end of the week they increased a little. Long cucumbers had the average price 2.75 PLN (0.63 euro)/kg (decrease from 2.98 PLN (0.68 euro)/kg), and the average price of short cucumbers was 3.00 PLN (0.69 euro)/kg (decrease from 3.30 PLN (0.76 euro)/kg). As regards domestic tomatoes one could noticed much decrease in their prices, however at the end of the week prices increased a little. The average price of tomatoes BB packed into 6 kg cartons decreased from 8.33 PLN (1.91 euro)/kg to 6.13 PLN (1.41 euro)/kg week-on-week (in the middle of the week price was even 5.93 PLN (1.36 euro)/kg). However prices of tomatoes are still too high for importers from Russia.
The export of last year’s crop Chinese cabbage definitively ended and on the market there are more and more of early Chinese cabbage. Last week its average price was 1.90 PLN (0.44 euro)/kg (with the packaging). In the South of Poland one can already expect the bigger amount of Polish cauliflowers. Last week prices of domestic cauliflowers on the local wholesale markets were on the level 3.50 PLN (0.80 euro)/pcs. After the short-lived increase the price of the white cabbage again dropped. The price of cabbage from the cold store intended for export was 0.20 – 0.24 PLN (0.04-0.05/kg. The average prices of red cabbage and beets also slightly went down.
Contrary to prices of domestic early vegetables, the prices of imported vegetables slightly increased e.g. prices of broccoli, onion, red onion, sweet pepper, carrot. The prices of imported leeks and cauliflowers increased much stronger, even above 20 % week-on-week.
