The second week of February didn't bring the significant changes in prices of fruit and vegetables. In spite of the further depreciation of zloty it didn’t considerably influence prices of imported fruit and vegetables.
Prices of some vegetables, e.g. Spanish broccoli or cucumbers decreased week on week. An upward trend in prices of Iceberg lettuces, which one could observe at the beginning of February, also finished. An increase in prices of citrus fruit was also only slight. But the situation is very likely to change. At the end of the week one could noticed the stronger upward trend in prices of vegetables imported from Italy and the prices of vegetables imported from other countries can also increase.
The reduced demand for Polish apples in Russia resulted in decrease in prices of red apples. However it didn't influence prices of yellow apples which even slightly increase. The price without the packaging of Golden Delicious was 1.30 – 1.50 PLN (0.28-0.32 euro)kg and price of Mutsu was 1.50 PLN (0.32 euro)/kg. What's interesting in the area of Grójec the price of Idared (70 +, without packaging) intended for export to Russia decreased from 0.65 PLN (0.14 euro)/kg to 0.55 – 0.60 PLN (0.12-0.13 euro)/kg while in the south-east Poland the recipients from Ukraine paid for Idared to 0.70 PLN (0.15 euro)/kg.
There are still processing plants which are interested in industrial apples. Last week in the area of Grójec the purchase price of apples for processing was 0.15 PLN (0.032 euro)/kg.
Last week prices of domestic vegetables remained rather stable. As regards brassicas the prices of Chinese and white cabbages didn't change. Only increase in demand for cabbages in Russian market can result in prices change. The price of red cabbages slightly increased and as regards Savoy cabbages there are not wholesale quantities of these vegetables. On the market. The situation will probably change before Easter when Savoy cabbages from the cold store will appear on the market. Additionally then one can expect certain increase in demand for all kinds of cabbages.
As regards root vegetables one can observe that the supply of high quality vegetables is decreasing and the demand for carrot, celeries or beets of good quality is rather high. As a result the price of carrot increased even to 1.50 PLN (0.32 euro)/kg. Prices of beets and celeries are stable at the moment, however it is possible that their prices will also increase especially for vegetables of very good quality.
