Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (09-15.11.2009)

In the second week of November the prices of apples, both dessert and industrial did not changed. As the export is very low, the prices of apples are also still very low. The producer price for apples 70+ is from 0.40 PLN (0.097 euro)/kg.

Only the price of apples Golden Delicious is higher. However their price (0.70 to 0.80 PLN (0.17-0.19 euro)/kg) is still lower than in the corresponding period last year (at least 1.00 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg. The purchase prices of industrial apples also remained low (0.14 – 0.16 PLN (0.034-0.039 euro)/kg.

Prices of most vegetables, especially root vegetables and brassicas, remained stable. The exception was white cabbage. At the end of last week in małopolskie province the price of white cabbage reached even 0.70 PLN (0.17 euro)/kg. One can already see that the supply of white cabbage will not be as big as the demand for it.

Last week demand for Chinese cabbage from Russian market also increased, however, it is not enough for prices increase.

The season for domestic cauliflowers and broccoli has practically finished. The supply of these vegetables is low. Prices reached 2.00 PLN (0.49 euro)/pcs for broccoli and 2.50 PLN (0.61 euro)/pcs for cauliflowers.

Tomatoes imported from Spain already appeared on the market. The price of tomatoes G (BB) was 18 PLN (4.38 euro)/6 kg. The price of domestic tomatoes was 14 - 15 PLN (3.40-3.65 euro)/carton 6 kg (B) and about 20 PLN (4.87 euro)/carton 6 kg (BB). Prices of red peppers imported from Spain were 25 - 27 PLN (6.08-6.57 euro)/carton 5 kg. The price of Spanish long cucumbers in boxes of 4.5 kg was 17 PLN (4.14 euro)/box.

In the second week of November Polish onion was still in big demand from foreign recipients. At the moment considerable amount of onion are exported to Ukraine and Bulgaria. Last week the price of onion was 0.50 – 0.60 PLN (0.12-0.14 euro)/kg.
