Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (11-17.01.2010)

Second half of January has started and in Russia and Ukraine holiday season has ended. Apples growers hope that export will grow considerably. But so far prices of apples remained stable. The price of red varieties (also the most popular Idared), size 70 + was 0.50 – 0.60 PLN (0.12-0.15 euro)/kg (without packaging).

More apples are delivered to processing plants due to bigger supply of waste apple remaining after preparing eating apples. However price of industrial apples is still low - 0.15 PLN (0.04 euro)/kg.

On the market of fresh vegetables prices of beets, celeriac and parsley remained stable. Prices of carrots and leeks also remained stable due to import of these vegetables from the Netherlands and Belgium and France adequately. Prices of onion increased as a result of low supply and growing demand. Its price reached even 0.90 PLN (0.22 euro)/kg. However one can expect that also in the case of onion, import will weaken the upward trend in onion’s prices. On the market one can already buy onion imported from Germany and the Netherlands.

As it was expected the prices of cabbages were rising slowly.

Prices of imported vegetables and fruit remained stable at quite high level but demand for them is also quite big. Importers have not problems with selling mandarins and oranges as well as broccoli, cauliflowers or lettuces.
