Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (12.07 – 16.07.2010) – vegetables
In week 28 market one could still observe low supply of some vegetables (cabbage, cauliflowers, broccoli) and generally high prices. The supply of Chinese cabbage is also low however the situation slightly improved. Prices of cucumbers and tomatoes were still much fluctuating. In the south of Poland affected by flood, the supply of vegetables is generally lower and their prices are higher.
Due to still low supply prices of early cabbage remained at the level of 1.80-2.50 PLN (0.44-0.61 €)/pcs. for heads over 2 kg. The purchase prices of cabbage were from 0.80 (0.19 €) to 1.30 PLN (0.32 €)/kg.
The harvest of cauliflowers is insufficient at the moment, they are small (size 8) and their quality is rather poor. Prices of cauliflowers were 1.90 – 2.50 PLN (0.46-0.61 €)/pcs. and above 3.00 PLN (0.73 €)/pcs for big, good quality cauliflowers in the south of Poland. Producers say that they are going to start soon the harvest of cauliflowers which were planted later so as a result the supply will increase. However the harvest depends on the weather and additionally some producers inform about problems with insects.
The supply of broccoli is also low. It is difficult to find more than a few pallets at once. Prices of broccoli remained at 1.80-2.20 PLN (0.44-0.54 €)/pcs.
The supply of Chinese cabbage is slightly bigger but its price still remained high: from 2.30 PLN (0.56 €)/pcs. in the centre of Poland to 2.80 PLN (0.68 €)/pcs. in the south.
At the begging of July prices of greenhouse cucumbers were increasing and prices of field cucumbers for pickles were decreasing. In 28 week this trend reversed. Prices of greenhouse long cucumbers decreased to 1.00-1.50 PLN (0.24-0.37 €)/kg and prices of short cucumbers fell to 0.90-1.40 PLN (0.22-0.34 €)/kg. prices of field cucumbers increased from 1.00-1.50 PLN (0.24-0.37 €)/kg to 2.00-3.00 PLN (0.49-0.73 €)/kg.
Prices of tomatoes never reached such high level at the begging of July – 5.42 PLN (1.32 €)/kg for B tomatoes and 5.83 PLN (1.42 €)/kg for BB tomatoes. In 28 week tomatoes were cheaper but their prices were as twice high as last years in corresponding period. At the end of the week prices of B tomatoes was 4.33 PLN (1.06 €)/kg and price of BB tomatoes was 4.66 PLN (1.14 €)/kg.
Prices of beets decreased to 0.80-1.40 PLN (0.19-0.34 €)/kg. Leeks also were cheaper and their price at the end of the week was 3.00-3.70 PLN (0.73-0.90 €)/kg. First early celeriac without leaves appeared on the market but its price was high – 8.00 PLN (1.95 €)/kg.
