Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (15.02 – 21.02.2010)
Last week one could observe the price stagnation on the apples market. Trade companies purchased much smaller quantities of apples and prices did not change in comparison with previous week.
Apples of red varieties from cold storage: Shampion, Gloster, Jonagold and its mutants, were bought at price from 0.70 to 0.80 PLN (0.17–0.20 €)/kg for size 70 + and from 0.80 to 0.90 PLN (0.20-0.22 €)/kg for size 80 +. The producer price of Ligol size 80 + was from 0.80 to 1.00 PLN (0.20-0.25 €)/kg. As regards apples from ordinary storage some companies purchased Idared size 70 + at price 0.65 PLN (0.16 €)/kg.
Gala apples were still in quite big demand. The producer price of these apples from cold stores was 1.00 to 1.40 (0.25-0.35 €)/kg for size 65 +. The price of Golden Delicious apples, which were in slightly lower demand last week, was from 1.10 to 1.40 PLN (0.27-0.35 €)/kg for size 70 +.
Last week the prices of pears did not change. The producer price of Conference size 60 + and 70 + was from 1.50 to 1.70 PLN (0.37-0.42 €)/kg and the price of Lucas was 1.50 PLN (0.37 €)/kg.
The price of apples for processing also remained stable. The purchasing centers aid for such apples from 0.12 to 0.15 PLN (0.03-0.037 €)/kg and the price for apples delivered just to processing plants was from 0.16 to 0.20 PLN (0.04-0.05 €)/kg depending on the region of Poland.
Although in the third week of February prices of most vegetables remained stable, the situation on vegetables market certainly was not boring and quiet due to changing prices of cabbage.
Prices of carrots, beets and celeriac remained virtually constant. The price of washed parsley also remained stable, still at the high level - even above 4 PLN (1.00 €)/kg. Price of domestic onion stabilized at 1.10 - 1.30 PLN (0.27-0.32 €)/kg for good quality product.
Last week the prices of cabbages was the hottest topic on vegetable market. Red cabbage is still expensive. In mazowieckie province its prices was over 1.20 PLN (0.30 €)/kg. Savoy cabbage is much more expensive than last year. Its current supply is very low and prices are at level of 3 PLN (0.75 €)/pcs. or 1.80 PLN (0.45 €)/kg. However the greatest excitement was caused by prices of Chinese and white cabbages. In the case of Chinese cabbage, the situation is quite clear. Demand for this cabbage is still large and its prices are in upward trend, although last week, prices were rising slowly. The producer price of Chinese cabbage came to 0.90 – 1.40 PL (0.22-0.35 €)/kg (without packaging) depending on the area of Poland. Small and green Chinese cabbage is of course in the biggest demand and its price is the highest.
Last week one could observe an interesting situation as regards prices of white cabbage. While in the center of the country, both demand and prices had a tendency to stabilization or even to reduction, in małopolskie province the supply was low what resulted in rising prices. In mazowieckie, łódzki, świętokrzyskie and wielkopolskie provinces producer price of white cabbage stabilized at 0.65 - 0.75 PLN (0.16-0.18 €)/kg depending on the size and quality of heads. By contrast, producer price of white cabbage in małopolskie province reached the level 1.10 PLN (0.27 €)/kg and one can expect further increase.
Last week price of imported French and Belgian leeks increased to 5 - 6 PLN (1.25-1.50 €)/kg. Currently, imported leeks almost dominated our market. Prices of carrots and onions imported from the Netherlands did not change. There were no major changes in the prices of broccoli. Spanish iceberg lettuce still remained expensive. The price of Spanish tomatoes of size G was 40 - 42 PLN (10-10.50 €)/carton 6 kg, and tomatoes of size M – 37 PLN (9.25 €)/carton 6 kg. The price of Spanish red peppers increased to 42 PLN/carton 5 kg. The price of imported cucumbers was 36 - 37 PLN (9-9.25 €)/4,5 kg, while the price of domestic cucumbers is 9 – 10 PLN (2.25-2.25 €)/kg. It is possible to buy white cabbage from Germany. At the end of last week its price on German market was 0.22 euro/kg.
