Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (26.01-01.02.2009)

The last week of January passed. Average prices both apples and domestic vegetables remained rather stable. Fluctuation in prices was minimal (1-3 %) and resulted from changing lower or upper limit for price level.

Prices of imported fruits also remained stable. On the contrary prices of imported vegetables were changing much more.

The prices both dessert and industrial apples didn't change. At the moment the demand for industrial apples isn't big, however there are some processing plants which are still buying the raw material. In purchasing centers in mazowieckie province the price was 0.10 – 0.12 PLN (0.022 – 0.027 euro)/kg and in processing plants 0.15 PLN (0.034 euro)/kg.

Prices of apples intended for export were as follows: 0.50 – 0.60 PLN (0.113-0.135 euro)/kg for red varieties 70 +, 0.60 – 0.65 PLN (0.135 – 0.146 euro)/kg for Idared and 1.00 – 1.30 PLN (0.22 - 0.29 euro)/kg for Golden Delicious and Mutsu (all prices without packaging).

Prices of domestic vegetables for fresh market remained stable. Increase in prices was noted only for vegetables for processing. Price of carrots for cubes increased to 0.35 PLN (0.08 euro)/kg, red cabbage to 0.35 PLN (0.08 euro)/kg and Savoy cabbage to 0.50 PLN (0.11 euro)/kg.

Bigger changes in prices were noted for imported vegetables, especially for Spanish cucumbers which became more expensive as a result of unfavorable weather. The price of cucumbers packed in boxes of 4.5 kg increased from the average level of 9 PLN (2.03 euro)/kg to 14.20 PLN (3.20 euro)/kg week to week. Great fluctuation was noted for broccoli. At the end of the week its average price was 4.40 PLN (1.00 euro)/piece. One can also expect increase in prices of iceberg lettuces. At the moment the price of iceberg lettuce imported from Spain is about 3.05 PLN (0.69 euro)/piece.
