Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (27.07-02.08.2009)
The end of July, how one could expect, didn't bring an increase in purchase prices of sour cherries. The prices at level 0.50 – 0.60 PLN (0.12-0.14 euro)/kg are catastrophic for fruit farmers. The Polish association of fruit growers began the protests, accusing processing plants of the price setting.
They organized a picket outside the building of Agricultural Ministry. On the contrary the representatives of processing plants say that the prices are so low due to oversupply of sour cherries in Europe.
The purchase prices of raspberries decreased again and last week in processing plants the price of raspberries was 2.80 – 3.40 PLN (0.67-0.82 euro)/kg i.e. by about 1 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg less than in the corresponding period of last year.
The purchase of currants is slowly ending. Last week the price of black currants was from 1.50 (0.36 euro) to 2.10 PLN (0.50 euro)/kg, and the price of red currants was 0.70 – 0.80 PLN (0.17-0.19 euro)/kg.
Exporters of early variety apples (Early Geneva) also have trouble. The quality of apples is poor (bad colouring and bad formed seed cavities) what causes that a lot of apples cannot intended for export.
Prices of early varieties of plums are from 1 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg in the South of Poland to 2.45 PLN (0.59 euro)/kg in the centre and north-east of Poland where the supply of plums is lower.
Prices of cauliflowers were high. The supply of cauliflowers is still low and as a result their prices reach even 3 PLN (0.72 euro)/pcs. The similar situation is for broccoli. Last week their price was 2.70 PLN (0.65 euro)/pcs.
The prices of greenhouse cucumbers were still low. The price of long cucumbers was to 1.50 PLN (0.36 euro)/kg and the price of short cucumbers was 1.20 – 1.50 PLN (0.29-0.36 euro)/kg (cucumbers packed into plastic bags).
Last week prices of tomatoes much decreased. At the end of last week the price of tomatoes B size was from 1.50 PLN (0.36 euro)/kg, and the price of BB tomatoes was from 1.66 PLN (0.40 euro)/kg what means that their prices decreased by about 1 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg week-on-week.
