Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (28.09-04.10.2009)
The beginning of October brought the worsening weather what influenced the prices of some vegetables. By contrast, as regards apples, nothing changed. Prices are stable at the low level. The purchase prices of industrial apples were 0.14-0.17 PLN (0.03-0.04 euro)/kg in purchasing centers and to 0.20 PLN (0.05 euro)/kg for apples delivered to the plants.
Because of the harvest of apples is in full swing, in some places one can observe bigger supply of industrial apples, but due to low prices most of fruit growers leave the fruit under trees. Prices of apples intended for export stabilized at the level from 0.50 PLN (0.12 euro)/kg for red varieties, 70 + (without packaging). Gala and Ligol are more expensive - 0.90 PLN (0.21 euro)/kg and to 0.85 PLN (0.20 euro)/kg respectively.
Rain and low temperatures mainly influenced the prices of tomatoes. The average price of B tomatoes increased from 1.92 (0.45) to 2.65 PLN (0.62 euro)/kg and the price of BB tomatoes from 2.08 PLN (0.49 euro)/kg to 3.30 PLN (0.78 euro)/kg week-on-week. The prices of greenhouse cucumber also increased. The average price of short ones was 2.40 PLN (0.56 euro)/kg (increase from 2.15 PLN (0.50 euro)/ kg week-on-week) and the price reached even 2.70 PLN (0.63 euro)/kg. However, the price of cucumbers are still much lower than at the beginning of October 2008, when the price of short cucumbers was over 5.00 PLN (1.18 euro)/kg.
One can expect the increase in prices of red sweet peppers. At the end of last week the price of red pepper was still 3.00 PLN (0.71 euro)/kg but it is certain that it will be higher.
One can also expect that due to worsening weather prices of cauliflowers and broccoli will rise. So far in the central and southern Poland the supply of these vegetables is still big and prices are at the level of 1.00 – 1.20 PLN (0.23-0.28 euro)/pcs. for cauliflowers and from 0.80 PLN (0.19 euro)/pcs. for broccoli. In lubelskie province, where bumper crops started earlier than in other provinces, one can already observe decrease in supply of these vegetables.
