Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (29.03 – 04.04.2010) - vegetables

The end of March and the beginning of April did not bring any changes in the current trends on vegetables market. Supply of domestic vegetables is getting smaller what influences prices of some vegetables. It concerns especially onions. Price of this vegetable reached 1.60 PLN/kg, and in podkarpackie province even 1.80 PLN/kg.

In the central part of Poland the price of washed celeriac increased to 2.20 PLN/kg. Red cabbage was also more expensive. Its price grew to 1.20 PLN/kg. Prices of Chinese cabbage also increased and last week the rice of the price of the best quality cabbage was 2.70 PLN/kg. Only prices of beets remained stable.

Prices of carrot also remained stable. Current season is not good for carrots producers. Generally the quality of carrot is poorer than last year and its price is also much lower. Current price of washed carrot is 0.75 - 0.95 PLN/kg.

The purchase price of white cabbage in some trading companies, fell to 0.50 PLN/kg, however most companies still pay 0.60 – 0.70 PLN/kg. Many producers still believe that the highest prices of white cabbage in these season are still ahead of them. However it would be possible if the supply of cabbage fall significantly before the appearance of young cabbage.

The price of domestic cucumbers increased to 6.50 – 7.00 PLN/kg for long cucumbers and 7.00 - 8.00 PLN/kg for short ones (their price reached even 9.00 PLN/kg). Prices of Polish tomatoes also increased due to lower supply, also of imported tomatoes. Prices of tomatoes were as follows: 60 - 65 PLN/ 6 kg for size B (M), 65 – 70 PLN/ 6 kg for size BB (G), and 80 PLN/6 kg for size BBB (GG). The beginning of April did not bring any changes in prices of imported vegetables. Their prices are still high due to insufficient supply.
