Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (7 - 13.12.2009)

In the second week of December prices of domestic fruit and vegetables did not change.

Exports of apples to Ukraine is not large enough to cause the increase in their prices. The price of red varieties, size 70 + is still from 0.45 – 0.50 PLN (0.11-0.12 euro)/kg (without packaging). The price of yellow apples is 0.70 – 0.90 PLN (0.17-0.22 euro)/ kg. Generally, apple producers and traders are waiting for the opening of the Russian market, which will take place after the New Year.

Prices of root vegetables, brassicas and onion still remain stable. Their export is rather low and one cannot expect any changes in the near future.

On the contrary the demand for imported vegetables and fruit, especially mandarins, is growing. Price of good quality mandarins, arranged in layers, size 1 - 2, imported from Spain is even over 50 PLN (12.08 euro)/10 kg.

On the Polish market, next to the French cauliflowers, Italian broccoli at price about 3.00 PLN (0.72 euro)/pcs. have appeared.

Last week prices of imported tomatoes and cucumbers were increasing. At the end of the week, the price of tomatoes imported from Spain, size G was to 28 PLN (6.76 euro)/6 kg and price of cucumbers also from Spain was to 28 PLN (6.76 euro)/4.5 kg. Next week their prices probably will further increase.

Price of red sweet pepper imported from Spain also increased and was above 30 PLN (7.25 euro)/5kg.
