Will the leeks be more expensive?

The wholesale prices of leeks started growing as a result of the latest heavy frost. On Wednesday, 7th December the wholesale price of leeks exceeded 3.00 PLN (0.76 euro)/kg.

In świętokrzyskie province cooperatives purchased leeks at price about 1.30 PLN (0.33 euro)/kg (without the packaging). On the market one can observe lower supply of these vegetables. Some cultivations were damaged by frost. The amount of leeks import will influence the price in the near future. The import of leeks should be profitable at the price above 2.50 PLN (0.64 euro)/kg. If the import meet the domestic demand the price of leeks won’t change considerably. What will be the price of imported leeks one should see the next week.
