Poland: apple exporters start with residue-free cultivation

2015-02-03 09:57
To help growers with residue-free cultivation, Syngenta, together with export company Rajpol, launched the Fruit Quality Contract programme. Dominik Wozniak, commercial manager of Rajpol, talks about this on www.portalspozywczy.pl, the NFO newsletter reports.

With the programme, Rajpol wants to enable growers to cultivate high quality apples that meet the requirements of German retail chains. If this is successful, it would also pave the way for export to other demanding markets like Scandinavia or even Arab countries, Wozniak expects. So far, Polish retail chains haven't set additional residue demands for fruit and vegetables.

According to Ulrich Henser of Syngenta Crop Germany, Polish apples are already present in German retail chains, but usually not very visibly. They often stand out because of their low price. "It's worth changing this, and to introduce a recognizable brand for Polish apples," Henser says.
