EC rejected Polish and Hungarian proposal on protection of apple market

The European Commission rejected the demand proposed by Poland and Hungary for enforcing the protection of the union market against the import of cheap Chinese apple concentrate.

According to Mariann Fischer Boel, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development low prices of apple concentrate are not a result of the import of concentrate from China, of which this year’s volume is smaller than in previous years. Commissioner suggested different mechanisms which would help solve a problem, among others measures within the programme of Rural Development.
