Poland leads EU in processed strawberries

Strawberry production in Poland for 2009 was estimated at 195,000 tons, a drop in 3% from 2008. Poland remains the biggest exporter of processed strawberries in the EU and also produces and exports strawberry juice to the US.

Due to the fragmented state of the Polish strawberry industry, changes are a foot. Forming producer's groups to help the sector and also continued research into new varieties.

Strawberry growing like all EU farming is hugely subsidised with growers getting 400 - 560 per hectare to grow the fruit.
