Retail chains are raging with kaki fruits in Poland.

For some time now we have had a full season for Spanish kaki. Fruits are available for sale practically everywhere - from retail chains to small, residential vegetable grocery stores. Among Poles there is a clear increase in interest in these fruits, especially since the full Spanish campaign translates into prices. Already at the turn of November and December, importers' prices fell to the level of just above 0,23 EUR per kilogram. Thus, Spanish kaki in a small wholesale can be bought for over a week from 7,50 EUR per carton box- a carton is about 4 kg of fruit, regardless of the size (from 16 to 24), i.e. prices of 0,47 EUR per piece for the thickest fruit and 0,31 EUR per piece for the smaller fruit.

However, this is not yet cheap. The real bargain is  in retail chains, where for a retailer kaki is offered from less than a 0,23 EUR per kilogram. This was the case, among others, during the weekend in Auchan, where mature, nice, although slightly smaller kaki could be bought from as little as 0,23 EUR per kilogram. Of course, there was no shortage of volunteers.

And why is it worth buying kaki? Let's remind you.

Kaki fruit (sharon, persymona) is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and fibre. It is also a source of carotenes, calcium, potassium and iron. In addition, it contains various antioxidant compounds, such as proanthocyanidine, epicatechine and gallic and p-cumaric acids.

Kaki has been used in Chinese medicine since its inception. Persymona leaves are used to treat a variety of diseases: hot compresses are applied in case of snake bites and on irritated skin, a drink made from cooked leaves is used to lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting and treat cancers.

Kaki fruits are particularly valuable in the fight against leukemia - according to research, kaki extract can contribute to inhibiting the development of malignant cells and their programmed death (apoptosis).

Kaki has one more advantage, i.e. it lowers the overall cholesterol in blood and the concentration of this bad LDL cholesterol in the body, as well as lipid peroxides and triglycerides.
