Tomato export in 2012

The volume of exports of tomatoes in 2012 was 92.3 thousand. tons with the value of 322.5 million PLN. Comparing this with the data from the year 2011 shows that 2012 was much better for the export of Polish tomatoes. In 2011, exported 55.3 thousand tons for 150.8 million PLN. This is an increase in exports by 66.7 percent in terms of volume and as much as 113.9 percent in terms of value.

In 2012 the largest number of Polish tomatoes were sold to countries in Central - Eastern Europe - 60.6 thousand tons for 225.1 million PLN, including Russia with 39.4 thousand tons, with 151.8 million PLN. This represents an increase of exports to the East by 59.5 percent in terms of volume and a 129.5 percent in value compared to 2011. More tomatoes also exported to EU countries. The volume of these exports amounted to 31.7 thousand tons (85.4 percent), and the value of 97.4 million PLN (85.9 percent).

The largest difference in the export sector, year on year relationship was observed in the case of Russia - 17.5 thousand tons in 2011 and 39.4 thousand tons in 2012. This is an increase by as much as 125.1 percent. In addition, export to Russia was up 42.7 percent share in all Polish exports of tomatoes in 2012.

It is also worth to be noted that in 2012 export was relatively high to countries that themselves are rather large producers and exporters of tomatoes. Exports to Spain was 0.8 thousand tons (in 2011 there was 0.05 thousand tons), to the Netherlands 1.1 thousand tons (2011 - 0.2 thousand tons), to Italy 1.0 thousand tons (in 2011 there were no exports to Italy) and to Greece 1.9 thousand tons (2011 - 0.02 thousand. tons).

Comparing exports for the whole 2012 and the three quarters of this year, it can be seen that in the fourth quarter, so at the end of the season, export reached 18.1 thousand tons of tomatoes for 64.4 million PLN. It offers a share of the fourth quarter in total export at the level of 19 percent, which is quite a good result for the final period of the season.
