Walnuts instead of apples?

This year's low prices of apples cause that many fruit growers are going to change of type of cultivations. Some fruit growers decided to clear the orchards of apple trees and planting trees of walnuts.

It is caused by the fact that EU pays about 650 zloty (about 194 EUR) for every hectare of cultivations of walnuts and guarantees to pay such money for 5 years. Moreover this year's purchase prices of walnuts are very encouraging. Price of walnuts in shells is 1.79 – 3.88 EUR/kg and price of walnuts without shells is even 8.95 EUR/kg. So far the supply of Polish walnuts is so low that doesn’t meet the demand of the confectionery industry and food industry.
