Low supply of early onion

There is a very small amount of early peeled onion on the market. This situation will change in few week when early spring onion will arise on the market. Now that gap is being filled by onion imported from Macedonia but peeled in Poland which very often is being sold as domestic onion.

Problems with supply caused that the prices of onion have stabilized. In the wholesale it is about 2.30 – 2.50 PLN/kg. Purchase prices on the wholesale markets are at the level of 3.00 PLN/ kg. This is the price of domestic onion as well as imported.

As we have been already writing, the situation is favorable for those who still sell “old”, good quality onion. Its price has been increasing recently. In the wholesale it costs 0.60 – 0.70 PLN/ kg.

Prices of onion from last year crops have slightly increased. It can be noticed that at the end of season something changed.

Export of Polish onion

According to the latest data from Polish Central Statistical Office, from January to October 2011 Poland exported 68 thousand tons of onion, mainly to Great Britain and Netherlands.
