Ukrainian sweet cherries too expensive for Russia

The situation is connected with relatively high prices of Ukrainian produce. Due to a decrease in the sweet cherry supply provoked by rainy and cloudy weather, Ukrainian growers maintain high price levels and now ship sweet cherries of export quality at UAH 20-25/kg (EUR 1.22-1.52/kg), depending on quality and variety, an increase of 35% year-on-year.

Exporters consider such prices high as they make Ukrainian sweet cherries absolutely uncompetitive in the Russian market compared with domestic produce. In addition, the supply of sweet cherries from Uzbekistan, Spain, Serbia and Greece is also high in the Russian market. Furthermore, prices of Uzbek produce are often lower compared with prices of Russian sweet cherries.
