More active exports provoke jump in white cabbage prices in Poland
Last week Polish farmers said of lack of a seasonal increase in white cabbage prices due to low demand in the internal market and externally. Before the weekend they were ready to sell white cabbages at 0.10-0.13 euro/kg.
However, the situation sharply changed in the beginning of this week, when Ukrainian companies started actively purchasing produce in Poland. For the present, export prices of white cabbages have already exceeded 0.16-0.18 euro/kg. Furthermore, growers are sure that prices will only continue to grow, sell their produce from storage and are interested in concluding provisional contracts only under conditions of full prepayment.
High demand from the side of Ukrainian importers is connected with shortage of high-quality supply in Ukraine. For the present, only several farms have large stocks of high-quality white cabbages. They temporarily stopped shipping and expect a further increase in prices. In connection with that, Ukrainian retail chains try to compensate lack of produce with imported white cabbages. Ukrainian importers have already reported of first large shipments of Polish produce this week. However, the start of active imports have not affected the Ukrainian market yet: white cabbage prices keep on growing.
